Literal data table? Over several months, I designed and upgraded a tabletop salvaged from the dumpster to feature the entire Apalachicola River, curled into a spiral, with the headwaters at the table’s center. Then I made a Story Map explaining the process and highlighting all the reasons I think that river is awesome. Click the link below to read about it.
The idea of twisting and warping linear map features into a spiral is something I plan on exploring further. I think it could be an interesting solution for mapping things like long rivers or trail systems, using a shape that is more space and paper/print friendly but without generalizing the path as much as something like a metro map.
